Ogden Marathon

Kalie decided she wanted to run her first marathon.

She chose the Ogden Marathon to make her marathon debut.

She began training in January with a friend.

They would pop their children into their jogging strollers and away they would go.

Longer runs were usually reserved for Saturdays.

When she would tell me she was running 13 or 14 or 15 or 20 miles on Saturday, my mind would rebel. That is a LONG way to run.

It's a LONG way to walk. Have you ever walked 13 miles in a day?

She was also very good to do serious cross-training. She did a lot of other types of cardio and strength training.

She was very strong and prepared for this race.

Boyd, Kevin, Isaac and I wanted to be at the finish line. Kalie's goal was to run her marathon in 4 hours. That's a little over a 9 minute mile...

We figured she would be hitting the finish line at about 11:00.

We left in plenty of time but had a difficult time finding a parking spot that was close.

We found one along the road and set off at a very brisk pace to get there in time.

We had looked online for the finish line address. It said the address was 25th street and Washington. When we got there, there was no finish line.

The end of the race was actually 25th street and GRANT!!

Basically, we walked an extra block or two before we reached the end. We were so nervous that we would miss her running across the finish line.

We waited anxiously and then suddenly I saw her! We only waited 8 minutes before she finished. That's how close our timing was.

She was running and looking good!

She completed her marathon with a time of 4 hours and 3 minutes!

Can you believe it? I can't.

Kalie was in the space reserved for the runners. She got her medal for running and some snacks if desired.

Then she walked through the gates to her little family.

I know that this race was so difficult for her, but SHE DID IT!
