Gwama and Yissa

This is a guest post I borrowed from Kalie's blog.

She had the best pictures and had already composed everything so why not? Why reinvent the wheel when the wheel that is there is better than the one you might create?

So here we go...in the words of Kalie:

Today was a very exciting day: Gwama and Yissa met us at the zoo!

We had a terrific time riding the carousel (although the giraffes were taken ... cue tears).

We laughed and clapped during the bird show (especially when Isaac covered his ears and said "Youd!" when the macaw came out ... I can't believe he remembered that).

We saw otters, sea lions, and seals. Buzz Lightyear liked them best.

And we found plenty of places to "nest" when we needed a break. Fun day in the sun!

Isaac drank his weight in water, ate the biggest lunch I've ever seen him eat, and slept three and a half hours that afternoon. Something tells me he had all the fun he could!

Weekend in Park City

So Boyd and I, Dave and Adele went up to Park City for the weekend.

We had purchased a 2-night stay at Westgate Resorts and needed to use it before it expired.

I made arrangements for Alyssa and Yogi and then we fled town.

Previously, I had asked Kalie for her friend's emails so I could get recommendations for restaurants that didn't cost a gazillion dollars.

Her friend, Andrea, sent me a recommendation for a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant called Chubasco.

After checking into the hotel, we went and found this restaurant and ordered our food.

I ordered a tamale, enchilada and beef taco platter.

I know this picture doesn't look the best because I forgot to take a picture until I was halfway through my meal. I'm awesome like that, as PW would say.

The food was so amazingly delicious.

The blend of flavors on the enchilada were memorable, amazing and unforgetable.

They also had the coolest soft drink dispensing machine I have ever seen.

It was all touch screen and it would automatically mix all kinds of flavors into the drink you wanted.

Here is what it looked like.

Here is what happened if you touched the Coca-Cola icon.

Can you read all of the flavors you can have infused into your coke? Sorry about the glare...the sun was shining into the restaurant.

Here's Adele trying out the machine.

They also had a homemade salsa bar. The mild salsas on the right of the picture and the pico de gallo in the pink bowl at the left of the picture were so good I could have slurped them through a straw.

And so we will never forget this place I took a picture of everyone out in front of the restaurant.

Saturday afternoon we went over to the Olympic Park.

There are a couple of museums there. As we walked through the museum, Boyd remarked that it was one of the most boring museums he had ever seen.

Until we got to this:

The bobsled.

We HAD to get a picture of ourselves inside that bobsled.

It was pretty simple to get inside the bobsled. And so we asked Boyd to take a picture of us.

It took so long for my camera to snap the picture. The light would blink and blink and blink and then when you had completely lost interest in ever getting your picture taken again, it would flash. And as we waited until the next eternity for the camera to take the picture, I got the giggles.

I couldn't help it. I was hysterical.

I don't think Adele knew what to do with me.

As I mentioned earlier, it was pretty easy to get into that bobsled.

Getting out? A completely different matter.

YOU COULD NOT GET YOURSELF OUT!

Even Dave had a hard time getting out. I have a new respect for bobsledders.

And then we had to take a picture with the skier.

And taking this picture of Dave with the skier's hair standing straight up gave me the giggles again.

I was completely hopeless.

Outside of the museum there were ski runs that the skiers would slide down and then do their tricks and then land in a pool of water.

This guy was a delight to watch.

He did some amazing jumps and flips and turns.

We were spellbound watching him.

When we got back to our hotel, one of our favorite things we did was relax in the adult only pool area in the resort.

It was so incredible.

It had a fairly large pool with a waterfall at one end, a hot tub, a steam room and a sauna at the other end.

We jumped into the pool, went into the hot tub, walked into the steam room (it was really hard to breath in that room because our lungs just aren't used to breathing in hot, super steamy air.), and finished up in the sauna.

Then we commandeered a table and played cards and ate snacks to our heart's content.

Word of warning: don't eat snacks late at night. They come back and haunt you in the form of terrible heartburn.

Boyd posed for me, standing under the waterfall. Please don't be jealous.

The water was so warm that I couldn't keep the steam off of my camera lense. This is the best shot I could get.

We also spent time at the outlet mall shopping our little brains out. I went in with no intention of buying anything and came out with 2 shirts and some kitchen gadgets.

So much for good intentions...

All in all, it was a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

Can't wait for the next one.

My Heart Took a Picture

I had the privilege of babysitting Isaac while Kevin and Kalie went to a luncheon for a scholarship award that Kevin earned.

I drove to their home and took Yogi the dog with me.

Isaac loves Yogi, and Yogi loves Isaac.

I brought in my portable dishes for Yogi's food.

Isaac is totally intrigued with Yogi's food bowls...particularly the water bowl.

The minute I set the water bowl down, Isaac put his little hands inside.

Then finding that it was only marginally exciting to play with just his hands, he went to the drawer containing measuring cups and grabbed a measuring cup.

After all, you can get more water that way.

And you can get a drink.

In case you are all feeling worried, this water has been untouched by dog's lips or tongues.

But my all time favorite moment was when Isaac crouched down and put his little face in the water and lapped it up like a dog.

Not only did my heart take a picture, I brought my camera just in case.

And now I have something to look at so I will never forget.

Just in case you thought that running through sprinklers is a game only for kids...think again.

Alyssa came home from work and asked her dad to turn on the sprinklers. She wanted to play in the water. After all, it had been a hot day.

Boyd walked over to the sprinkler box and flipped the switch and the water began.

I guess the water was a little cold...even for such a hot day as Saturday was.

Alyssa and Emma gathering up courage to get in the water.

Alyssa indulged me in my photographic venture.

Emma and Alyssa had to talk a long time to get Tony to join them and he finally did.

I love this picture because you can see the individual water droplets spraying everywhere.

Welcome summer!!!
